Where I keep learning after class: in the mountains, on a bike, and in a small plane.

Flight training

I’m working toward my private pilot license in Salt Lake City, in a Cessna 172. Every flight starts with the weather and a checklist and ends with a line in my logbook.

Bike touring

Spokes was the longest ride, not the only one. I’ve done several other extended trips. A tour asks for the day’s miles, your own repairs, and a place to sleep by dark, and it’s still how I’d rather see a place.

Stanford Spokes

In 2024 I rode 3,500 miles from San Francisco to D.C. with five other students, teaching workshops in 10 states along the way.

Home is in the Wasatch Back, so the mountains are close. I backpack, climb, and swim, and it’s where I go when I need to think.

Stanford Sierra Camp

In the summer of 2026 I led mountain bike rides for families and guests at Stanford Sierra Camp on Fallen Leaf Lake, and worked the waterfront as a lifeguard. Guiding asks you to watch the whole group and ride at the pace of the slowest rider.
